Newsletter December 2025

4 min | 8 December 2025

The last weeks of the year are often full: closing the budget, preparing the annual accounts, sharpening the plans for 2026. At the same time, files are crossing the energy table that go well beyond simply renewing a contract. Think of mobility, sustainability and financial certainty over the longer term.

In this newsletter we look closely at themes on which healthcare institutions and other large energy users are currently taking decisions: charging infrastructure on their own site, and Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with solar farms. Both bear directly on budget certainty, grid capacity and your sustainability ambitions. We also flag our blog on the impact of solar panels and other measures on your consumption profile, and on PowerBI and EnergyClick at PowerQ.

Solar panels and batteries: watch the effect on your consumption profile

Investments in solar panels and batteries are logical steps towards sustainability. But they also change your consumption profile, and with it the way your energy costs come about. An organisation with solar panels actually draws less during the cheap hours, which can push the average purchase price up. Batteries can lower peaks or, conversely, schedule extra consumption during cheap moments, each with a different effect on cost and predictability.

These profile changes matter to your supplier too, who is balance responsible and has to hedge risk. That is why it is important to report major sustainability investments in good time. Our blog sets out briefly what solar panels and batteries mean for prices, contract terms and your business case.

SPRILA subsidy: final weeks for charging infrastructure in healthcare

The SPRILA scheme makes it financially attractive in 2025 to build private charging infrastructure on owned or leased land. For healthcare sites with a lot of mobility this is the moment to tie policy, technology and subsidy together. The window closes on 19 December; in practice, postponing means a delay of close to a year.

The article sets out concisely who SPRILA is interesting for, what the main conditions are, and how to avoid installing ad hoc charge points without a considered energy and property strategy. We also show what role PowerQ can play in the business case, the scenarios and the preparation of the application.

Green ambition or financial risk area?

Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs): green ambition or financial risk area?

More and more solar farm operators are approaching hospitals and other large energy users with long-term PPAs at apparently attractive prices. A fixed price for green power sounds good, certainly after years of price shocks. But under the bonnet sit substantial profile, market and imbalance risks that can actually make your energy budget less settled.

In this article we explain how PPAs work, why the value of solar power falls during the day, what it means that you still have to buy the bulk of your consumption outside the PPA, and why an installation on your own roof is often financially more robust. You will come away with the tools to assess proposals and to place PPAs within your overall procurement and sustainability strategy.

A modern procurement system and PowerBI: control and professionalism in one package

More and more organisations are looking for structure, certainty and better steering. That is why we invest substantially every year in a modern procurement system, PowerBI reporting with clear benchmarks, automated invoice checking and a new client portal.

EnergyClick plays an important role in this: it is our own system for executing procurement strategies. Market information comes together here and we manage contracts and strategies in it, so that we can run procurement in an automated, consistent and scalable way. It lets us run several strategies alongside one another while keeping a grip on planning and execution.

The insights organisations see in PowerBI come from information held in several systems, including PowerQ Sense and EnergyClick. These dashboards bring data together into clear, deeper analyses, from performance per site to budget utilisation and points for adjustment. The reporting is being extended step by step and can be supplemented where needed with organisation-specific modules.

Curious what this means for your organisation? We would be glad to arrange a short demo.

Thank you for reading this edition. If you have questions, or would like a sounding board on one of the themes in this newsletter, do get in touch with your regular contact. We are always happy to think along with you.
